At Home With Haylee Folkvord
HELLO everyone, I am Haylee Folkvord, one of the Farmer’s Daughters. Along with daughter, I am a sister, girlfriend, Aunt Hay, and mom to KITTY! With my sister, Polly Pocket (the story behind her nickname is REAL good!), we run the Farmer’s Daughters Café and RSVP Motel. I also do the sales and events at our other property, the Sacajawea Hotel, and the social media for our businesses. I love working with my sister and my being a part of our family’s businesses. My family is everything to me and I am so blessed we are close.
Some of my very favorite memories growing up were at Wheat Montana and the farm. I will forever cherish helping Grandma Fran with harvest dinners (no one makes better meatloaf than Grandma Fran) and riding in the combine with my Grandpa Dale. These two are the definition of hard working and I am so thankful for the lessons I have learned about hard work from them, and my parents.
What are you reading?
I love to read! I definitely prefer fiction novels and really have to force myself to read nonfiction, so it is my rule to read every other. I just finished “Ordinary Grace” by William Kent Krueger and it was amazing! I highly recommend! Next up, “The Body Keeps the Score” by Bessel van der Kolk, I have heard it is a life changing book and I am really excited.
What are you cooking?
Can we talk about how many dishes there are when you make 3 meals a day at home?!?! I definitely took eating meals at the café for granted before this (I miss you bone broth!). I feel like all I do during shelter in place is wipe off my counter and do the dishes! But I love to cook and this has given me lots of time to do it. I have been making so many different soups so there are leftovers for the rest of the week. I found this Creamy Tomato Soup with Chicken and it is delicious, try it out! https://www.realfoodwithjessica.com/2017/03/27/paleo-creamy-chicken-tomato-soup/ I also have been trying some healthy sweet treats and this has proven even more that I am HORRBILE baker, like so so bad. Maybe in the end it’s a good thing they haven’t turned out? lol
What are you wearing?
SWEATS!
Favorite spot in the house?
My bed! Ugh, it’s so comfortable and I LOVE to sleep.
What is your morning ritual?
Mornings are my very favorite part of the day! Kitty and I start the day by meditating. I say we do it together because he usually lays on my stomach and messes with me, which isn’t always the most calming. Honestly though, he is an attention whore and we do most things together, as he is always up in my bid-ness. I try not to look at my phone first thing in the morning, but I really enjoy scrolling in bed, all comfy and warm, catching up on the sosh. Then we have hot water and lemon and sit in front of my Joovv, a red and near infrared light, it is the best, while listening to Darren Hardy’s Darren Dailys. Polly is obsessed with Ryan Holiday’s “The Daily Stoic”, which I have added to the morning routine, and it awesome starting the day with those readings. I do all of the social media for our three businesses and I try to do all of my posting in the morning, which is when we get the most engagement from followers. I would really help myself out and save so much time if I used Sked or Planoly for posts, but for some reason I continue to torture myself and do all three accounts each morning. I prefer to work out in the morning and so thankful that three days a week I get to workout with Kate Murphy of @katescleanlife. She is such a wonderful person and has truly helped change my life this year. With the gym being closed, we do Facetime sessions and it actually works out really well. Kitty likes to hop in on these sessions too, which is always nice. After all of this wonderful BS, I have some coffee, a smoothie, and sit down and work!
How has this experience changed you?
I didn’t know how much I took for granted going out to eat. I cannot wait to go to a restaurant and have SO many cocktails, oh my gosh I miss it so much. But in all seriousness, I am healthy and safe, and this has made me actually appreciate that and I hope I don’t take that for granted ever again.
