Our Trip to Flathead Lake

A quick getaway to Flathead Lake was the perfect way to detach from everything that is going on in the world. We’ve obviously kept close to home this summer, and Flathead Lake is only about a 4 hour drive from Bozeman. This place is near and dear to our hearts, and this trip we found a quaint house on a magical little island to call home for a few days. So much of our planned travel was cancelled due to COVID, so finding a last minute lake house was a challenge. Luckily, a family cancelled an hour before I found this spot. This was my first time booking a VRBO. As many of you know I LOVE hotels, but a house away from people is just what the quarantine doctor ordered.

Here’s a little diary of our stay at one of our favorite places…

WHERE TO STAY

Located on a private island on Flathead Lake, near Somers Bay, sits a rustic little lake home. They call it Emerald Island, named after the stunning color and clarity of the water that surrounds it. The private dock was our favorite place to be, which included paddle-boarding, kayaking, fishing, and a cliff diving spot.

The house was recently renovated with 3 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms, and beautiful views. Like I said, the house was a little rustic, but it had all the amenities that we needed. CLICK HERE FOR THE LINK

What to Do

Of course, boating would be my top suggestion. The owners of the house allow you to rent their pontoon boat, but if you are looking for something else, there are many other boat rental options nearby. Our sunset cruises were a highlight of the trip.

Nick, my dad, and Olivia fished each day. My dad caught breakfast one morning (fish and eggs, lol). Great fishing around the tiny island.

Roasting marshmallows at night was a hit for the 3-year old. Sitting around the campfire as the sun went down will definitely be memories etched in me forever.

Cooking! Yes, we brought an enormous amount of food, but cooking is therapy for me. We opened great wine and grilled each night.

If you are looking to get off of the island for lunch or dinner, Somers Bay is close to both Bigfork and Whitefish.
