Busy Mom Beauty Routine

I know, the term ‘self care’ once you become a new mom seems impossible. Time becomes much more scarce than it once was. The ultimate goal is to be lower maintenance than I was before kids, when I had way more time to pamper. Whether you are a busy mom or a working professional, here are a few of my tips that I thought might be helpful.

Weekly Hair Blowouts

I swear by a weekly blowout. My magician of a hairstylist can wash, blow-dry and style my hair under 30 minutes! Huge time saver for me, as I have really thick wavy hair that usually takes me way longer to do. Once my hair is styled by Bryna, I literally don’t have to touch it until the following week. The only maintenance it requires is a few curls here and there, and a ponytail on top of my head at night. As a result, my prep time in the morning is around 15 minutes from shower to getting dressed. Check out Bryna’s work HERE

Microblading

GAME CHANGER for me! I suffered from over plucking as a child, leaving me with no brows and making it so I needed to spend at least 5 minutes filling these suckers in. Thank goodness for Kierst with 406 Brows & Ink in Bozeman. She not only gave me the best brows of my life, she literally changed the look of my face in a really good way. She is meticulous about the design and shape, and extremely detailed with her work. In the mornings, I just throw on a little clear mascara and my brows are ready. Check out Kierst HERE

Waxing

I started getting a Brazilian wax back in college and have never looked back! I get waxed about every 5 weeks and it’s amazing not to worry about shaving. Recently, I started waxing my underarms, and I am hooked. Previously, I was getting really bad in-grown hairs under my arms, and waxing fixed that. Plus, not shaving daily is wonderful! Facials

I know this seems like a lavish expense. However, I have realized if I take care of my skin, I spend way less time doing my makeup and have fewer breakouts. I could talk for hours about acne and my experience. Back in my teens and early 20’s, my skin was a mess and the amount of time I spent covering my blemishes was insane. Monthly, I get a gua sha facial. This facial treatment involves scraping a flat jade or rose quartz stone over the skin in upward strokes to relax stiff muscles and promote tissue drainage. Lily also does an amazing facial massage, along with using the best face ointments.

If getting monthly facial is not in the budget, I highly recommend buying a gua sha tool. My two favorite are HERE & HERE. I’ve incorporated spending more time on my skincare each night and it’s become a ritual I look forward to. To be specific, I take 15-20 minutes each night to wash my face, lather on my favorite products, and gua sha my skin. My skin stays a lot clearer now, which means I’m more comfortable leaving the house without much makeup on, saving me time. Check out a gua sha video HERE.

At Home Workout

I love studio/ group classes, period. I workout way harder and longer, that is a fact. However, since becoming a mom, I realized I cannot always take a full hour, plus drive time, out of my day. My two current favorites are Melissa Wood Health workouts and Madeline Moves workouts. Melissa’s are low impact but effective, while Madeline’s are kick your ass hard. I still try to squeeze in at least one pilates session and one Zephre Cycling class per week.

A few other note worthy self-care hacks

  • As a mom, somedays we just feel drab and need a pick me up. A spray tan does just that for me, even in the dead of winter. Check out Elizabeth at Blush, she is so good!

  • Acupuncture— I know, this is time consuming. However, somedays just making myself go and sit there for 45 minutes is really good for me mentally. I walk out of there feelings so much better as a person, which in term makes me a better mom. HERE is where I go.

This list may seem extensive and still pretty high maintenance. But besides the blowout, these treatments don’t need to be done more than once a month. I like to schedule my self-care on the first Monday afternoon of each month. Knowing I can carve out this time for me every few weeks leaves my day-to-day beauty routine simple and streamlined.
