If I sit and quietly reflect on the places I’ve traveled to and think about what makes them so special, they all have one thing in common. No matter what the destination, the most special places to me are the ones that remain seemingly preserved in time.

This was our first time traveling to Mallorca, Spain. I has studied abroad in Spain many many years ago and fell in love with this country. The little island of Mallorca has been on my bucket list for years, and we completely fell in love.

Night One:

After a long travel day, we checked in to the beautiful Grand Hotel Sonnet. Grand Hotel Son Net is a luxurious hotel nestled in the heart of Mallorca's picturesque countryside. Set within a restored 17th-century mansion, this enchanting hotel offers a perfect blend of historic charm and contemporary elegance.

Surrounded by lush gardens and commanding views of the Tramuntana Mountains, Grand Hotel Son Net provides a tranquil retreat away from the hustle and bustle of daily life. Guests are greeted with a warm welcome upon arrival, and the hotel's attentive staff ensures that every need is met with the utmost care and hospitality.

Night one we dined at the hotel’s beauitful restaurant Mar & Duix. The food was fabulous and fresh. Also, we quickly fell in love with Mallorcans wines.

Day -Night Two:

Day one we explored the coastal gems: Mallorca boasts some of the most beautiful beaches in the Mediterranean, each offering its own unique charm. From the turquoise waters of Cala Llombards and the pristine sands of Es Trenc to the rugged cliffs of Cala Deià and the secluded coves of Cala Varques, there's a beach for every traveler's taste. The concierge hired a driver for our large party of 9, great way for us to see more of the island. We had lunch at Cassies Beach House, I would highly recommend making a stop here. A highlight was stopping at the quaint village of Santany, cute sidewalk cafes and great little shops.

That evening we went to the vibrant capital, Palma de Mallorca. Explored the historic Old Town with a private guide hired through the hotel. This part of Palma is where narrow cobblestone streets lead to hidden squares and centuries-old landmarks like the iconic Cathedral of Santa Maria. Our historic tour took us to a wine tasting at the Mallorcaria. Really delicious local wines. Dinner was at a very famous tapas bar El Camino. So happy we had dinner here.

Day- Night Three:

We took the historic wooden train from Palma to Soller. Soller is a charming town nestled in a lush valley on the northwest coast of Mallorca, Spain. Renowned for its stunning natural beauty, rich cultural heritage, and idyllic Mediterranean setting, Soller captivates visitors with its timeless allure and laid-back atmosphere. From Soller we took the tram to Port de Soller, just a 10 minute ride which takes you to the beach. We had the best lunch of the trip a Patiki. The food is not complicated; it is a textural, colourful, flavourful celebration of the raw ingredients, they have very consciously sourced on the island. The menu rolls with the seasons, changing as we use what we have and create with whatever else is delivered to our door.

After a long day of exploring we enjoyed a light meal, good wine and life music at a local cafe called San Vinya in the village by our hotel.

Day - Night Four:

We enjoyed an amazing lunch at our hotel, Gazebo. Highly recommend lunch here. The views are incredible and like the all the service at Grand Hotel Sonnet, the team goes above and beyond.

We checked out of Grand Hotel Sonnet and drove to Deia. Our next hotel was a bucket list spot for me the Belmond La Residencia. La Residencia, is a luxurious retreat nestled in the charming village of Deià on the northwest coast of Mallorca. Set amidst lush gardens and olive groves, this five-star hotel offers a tranquil escape with breathtaking views of the Mediterranean Sea and the rugged Tramuntana Mountains.

The hotel occupies a collection of beautifully restored 16th and 17th-century buildings, each exuding rustic elegance and timeless charm. Guests are greeted with warm hospitality and impeccable service from the moment they arrive, ensuring a memorable stay from start to finish.

Dinner was at El Olivo, one of the most romantic restaurants in Mallorca. Luckily located in our hotel. The flickering candlelight and beautiful view of Deia, creates an enchanting ambience, complementing the cuisine of Chef Pablo Aranda and his team.

Day Five Night Five-

Our kids LOVED the kids club at La Residencia. After checking them in, Nick and I hike the loop through Deia, the Cala Deia and back to the hotel. It took about 1hr, the views we beautiful.

Lunch was a bucket list Mallorca place for me Ca’s Patro March. The views along are worth the reservation, however the fresh seafood and local wine were equally wonderful. After lunch we took a quick deep in the Mediterranean.

In the evening Nick and I had a little date night. We rented a vespa and drove to the the hilltop village of Valldemossa, where Frederic Chopin and George Sand once found inspiration, and sample local delicacies like ensaimadas and sobrassada at traditional bakeries and markets. After exploring, we drove back to Deia, enjoyed maybe the best dinner of the trip at Nama. The Southeast Asia Cuisine was exceptional and the ambience was perfect for a romantic night.

Day 6 & Night 6 -

Dad and I started the day with a private yoga session. The instructor was exceptional.

Our 7 year old loves art. The Belmond set up a private art class with an artist from Deia. Certainly the highlight of Olivia’s trip. Our plans changed due to weather, therefore we enjoyed walking around Deia, having lunch at Miro, and reading books while it rained. Sometime I need to just slow down. Our original plan was lunch at Sa Fornadada, followed by a sunset sailboat ride. I will definitely do these next time in Mallorca.

Mallorca truly offers something for every traveler, whether you're seeking relaxation, adventure, or cultural immersion. With its stunning natural landscapes, historic landmarks, and warm hospitality, Mallorca is a destination that will capture your heart and leave you longing to return.
