Girl's Getaway - Big Sky

I had been dreaming of a girl’s getaway this summer. At last, when Big Sky Resort announced it’s annual Vine & Dine experience, I knew this would be the perfect weekend for my sister and myself to slow down for a weekend of pampering and relaxation. As we drove up the canyon (which we’ve done a million times), I felt that the surrounding beauty really resonated deeply with both of us this time. Side note, Olivia was with us too, and I’m sure the beautiful scenery resonated with her too, LOL.

This weekend really gave us a chance to just have sister time, away from the hustle of our business, outside the commitments of work. We were able to just connect, talk about life, and decompress. Big Sky truly has so much to offer.

We began our weekend checking into the Summit lodge. The views of Lone Peak from this hotel are stunning. From there, we enjoyed drinks outside the Carabiner Lounge, while Olivia drank all the hot chocolate she could get her hands on. She remembers this place from last ski season. Hot chocolate in the summer…why not!

What followed was one of the best meals in the most magical setting. We took the new 8-seat Ramcharger lift (heated seats included) to the top of one of the Big Sky peaks called Andesite. Everett’s 8800 Lodge sits perfectly atop Andesite, admiring the massive Lone Peak beside it. This lodge has become a favorite spot for Nick and I to stop in for lunch during ski season, and our favorite dinner spot in the evening. Everett’s 8800 is open to the public to ride the chairlift up for a fabulous dinner. Another fun activity at Everett’s during ski season is their breakfast. You sign up the night before for an early chairlift ride, breakfast at Everett’s, followed by first tracks down the mountain…pretty much the best way to start any ski day.

Ok, back to summertime in Montana. Can you tell Big Sky is a special place for us? The Sommelier greeted us with sparkling rosé while we took in the views of the mountain, golden hour of course. Passed apps circulated, followed by a delightful mushroom soup in a shot glass. I love a good appetizer that’s easy to eat.

Moving into dinner, the dining room glistened with perfect place settings. We knew from the start this meal would be special. The famous Sommelier Fred ____ welcomed the group, telling us to prepare our pallets for the most exquisite wine and food pairing coming our way. Each course required two wine varietals, an old world combined with a new world selection. Amazingly, each glass accompanied the food perfectly. I’m not sure if it was the great meal or the amazing company, but I knew from the start that this would be an evening to remember. Thanks to my fellow Montana gals and their guys for a great and entertaining dinner. Oh, and the chairlift ride down was beautiful, watching Big Sky twinkle against the summer sky.

Did I mention Olivia joined us in Big Sky? Well I knew the dinner wouldn’t be her cup of tea, so thanks to 406 Nannies, she spent the evening swimming, playing, and eating her favorite meal (salmon & French fries… balance right?). When traveling to Big Sky and looking for childcare while you ski, dine, or hike, 406 Nannies has you covered.

While the rest of my younger dining partners headed to the Speak Easy for a nightcap, I cuddled up with Olivia for a great night of rest.

Day 2. Now I’ve lived in Montana my entire life. I have skied Big Sky for 28 seasons, I’ve skied the tram many times, but today was a first for this local gal.

Starting our day by taking the Swift Current Chairlift to the first chalet perched on a mountain cliff, we selected from a beautiful assortment of Rosé, white, and red wines. What better way to start the day with a glass of Pinot at the Peak, right? We enjoyed the views before jumping into Big Sky’s _________. We traversed up the mountain until we arrived at the Tram lift. Up we went _____ feet. I will tell you, whether it be summer or winter, that ride always takes my breath away. Arriving at the top, of course we were handed glasses of bubbly. Being at the top of Lone Peak on clear day was stunning. You could see all the way to the Tetons. This was the first time I was able to actually enjoy the views from the top, normally I am hopping on skis and praying I will get down safety. This was a very unique experience, one I would highly suggest to people visiting Big Sky in the summer. I was surprised I had not experienced this before, and will be telling our hotel guests to definitely make this a day trip.

Haylee and I had a work obligation, so our weekend ended here. The rest of the weekend festivities sounded amazing, which I hope to participate in next year. The short list includes cocktail classes, cheese & wine pairing, Moonlight Music festival, an evening stroll through the Meadow Village, golf, brunch, and so much more. Thank you to Big Sky Resort for having my sister and I. It was exactly what we needed to recharge. We will be looking forward to this event next summer!

Thank you to Big Sky Resort for having us!
