If you followed me during the pandemic, we started cocktails with Nick each Friday night. This tradition has continued and he’s back for a festive holiday cocktail featuring America’s favorite @MakersMark. The homemade cardamom infused maple syrup, mixed with whisky, lemon, orange, and bitters makes this drink extra delicious. We made it fizzy by adding a splash of ginger beer.

Ingredients:

Simple Syrup:
1/2 cup maple syrup
2 cinnamon sticks
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1 tablespoon cardamom

Old Fashioned:
1.5 parts @makersmark
1 part lemon juice
2 parts orange juice
2 tablespoons maple cardamom syrup (ingredients listed above)
2 dashes bitters
Ginger beer
Orange slices for garnish
Cranberries for garnish

Rim:
Sugar (we used monkfruit)
Cayenne

Method:
1. Maple Cardamom Syrup: in a medium pot, bring 1/4 cup water, maple syrup, cinnamon, and cardamom to a boil over hight heat. Boil for 3 minutes, then remove from heat. Let cool.
2. On a small plate, mix 1 tablespoon sugar and 1 tablespoon cayenne. Run an orange wedge around the rim of your glass, then dip into mixture.
3. In your glass, stir together whisky, lemon juice, organic juice, bitters and cardamom syrup. Add ice and top with ginger beer. Garnish with cranberries and an orange slice.
4. Enjoy responsibly!
